About the play

a short work for our times

In a near-future America where citizenship can be quietly revoked, two strangers find themselves in a small, sterile detention room, one a man awaiting his fate, the other the guard assigned to watch over him.

As a seemingly routine hold-up turns into hours with a much more urgent undertone, barriers begin to blur, and an unexpected connection forms between them.

Denaturalization is an exploration of identity, belonging, and the bonds that can grow even in the most unlikely of places. At once intimate and urgent, the play invites us to reflect on what it means to see and be seen by another person, especially when the world wants to look away, and begs the question, “What would I do?”
